WHAT’S INCLUDED?
-
Scans at 2000dpi, 3000dpi or 4000dpi depending on your needs.
Think of it as med/high/extra high resolution.
Medium is best for those that want to save the most money but still get great scans, the extra high is best for image manipulation/reproduction, and the high is a great middle ground.
-
All of your negatives are blasted with compressed air to remove as much surface dust as possible before we scan them.
Once they’re scanned, our high tech scanners use a technology called Digital ICE to remove any of the tiny particles that have become embedded over the years.
-
If you have groups of images that you’ve named or photo albums that have labels, we’ll transfer those titles to the digital folders containing your scanned images, making it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for.
Got dates on your albums/groups? We’ll do our best to sort everything in chronological order for you.
-
A free 30-day, unlimited download and sharing link (up to 100GB in size)
All of our orders for digital files come with a free download and sharing link so you can share your memories with as many family members and friends as you like.
Need longer than 30 days? We can store your files indefinitely for just $5 a month.
-
Our image files are provided as high quality JPEG files as standard (the most compatible format), so you can take them anywhere and load them on any device.
-
We crop every scan down to the image area itself, ensuring a clean final photo file.
We also make sure that every image is rotated and oriented the correct way.
ADD-ON SERVICES
-
All our orders come with a free download and sharing link, but if you’d like to add a USB drive to your order, we can get the right size for the media you have.
Our prices start at $12 and we can let you know how large a drive you’ll need.
We can also put your files on a 100-year archival Data DVDs for $15 per 4.5GB of files (or per disc if special organization required). A great option to store away in a safety deposit box for safekeeping.
-
$0.25 for formats under 4×5
$1.50 for 4×5 and up
If you need the best possible quality from your scans, we can scan your slides as TIFF files, giving you the most digital information in your images.
-

We often see negatives that have some color balancing needs or might need some extra TLC.
Our work starts at $50 per 30 mins of technician time (most jobs can be completed in this time). But since every restoration job is different, we’ll give you an estimate before we start and keep in contact with you if we feel like it could use more attention.
Head over to our Photo Restoration page for more information.

Why Scan Film Negatives Instead of Photo Prints?
Our customers often ask, “Should I digitize my old negatives or just scan the prints I already have?
The answer depends on what you want from your final digital images.
Firstly, negatives hold the original information your camera captured, while prints went through a lab's processing decisions first.
Think about it this way - when you took that photo years ago, the camera recorded everything onto the film. The lab then interpreted that film to make your print, adjusting colors and contrast based on their equipment and standards. Sometimes they got it perfect, sometimes not so much.
Why This Matters for Your Photos
Prints change over time. They fade, develop color casts, or pick up stains from storage. Negatives stored properly tend to hold up better. That shoebox of negatives in your closet probably looks closer to what your camera originally saw than those prints in your photo album.
So whether you have 35mm strips, those square 120 format negatives, or larger professional formats, starting with the film gives you more options for creating quality digital versions. You get better detail, truer colors, and files that work better for enlarging or editing later.
Higher Resolution Means More Detail
Here's something most people don't realize - film negatives contain way more visual information than any print could show. A typical 4x6 print might look fine to your eye, but it's actually missing tons of detail that's still sitting there on the negative. When we scan at high resolution, we're pulling out information that was never visible on the original print.
Compare our lowest resolution negative scan at 2000dpi to our highest resolution photo scan at 600dpi - that’s over four times the resolution being scanned with the negatives.
This extra detail matters if you ever want to enlarge photos, crop them differently, or do any editing work. Maybe you want to zoom in on someone's face in a group shot, or perhaps you'd like to print a large version for framing. Starting with a negative scan gives you way more pixels to work with. It's like having the raw ingredients instead of the finished meal - you've got more options for what you can create.
Future-Proofing Your Digital Files
One thing people don't always think about is how technology keeps getting better. The TV you buy next year will probably have a higher resolution than the one you have now. The photo editing software that comes out in five years will likely do things we can't even imagine today.
When you scan your negatives at high resolution now, you're basically giving your future self more options. Those extra pixels we capture today might not seem as important on your current phone or computer, but they'll be there waiting when you upgrade to whatever's next. It's like taking out an insurance policy on your memories.
If you go with the higher resolution scan, you've got room to grow with whatever new technology comes along. Whether that's 8K TVs, virtual reality displays, or something we haven't thought of yet, your photos will be ready for it.
