WHAT’S INCLUDED?

  • We’ll transfer all of the files from your media onto another, more accessible medium for you.

You are welcome to provide a flash drive/external hard drive for your order, or we can provide a drive for an extra fee (starting at $15)

  • Sometimes the files on some old formats don’t show up with just inserting the media into a supported drive. In this case we’ll try everything we can, including using deep extraction tools to search for every last piece of data.

“I am very happy and satisfied with the work Remember Whenever did for me. They scanned all of the pages of my 7th grade yearbook and converted them to downloadable formats. It was a gift for my sister. She loved it!

Remember Whenever also retrieved and transferred my resume and coverletter from two floppy disks to downloadable formats. I highly recommend them.

In two separate occasions Paul, from Remember Whenever, drove to my job to pick up the floppy disks and yearbook and he also drove to my job to return them. It was a huge help bc I don't drive. Please don't hesitate to use their services. You won't regret it!”

DATA EXTRACTION

There's a box somewhere in a lot of homes around Fairfield County - maybe a closet shelf, maybe a desk drawer - with a stack of floppy disks or a handful of photo CDs sitting in it. Files that seemed important enough to save at the time. Documents, photos, old projects. The problem is that the hardware to read them quietly disappeared about twenty years ago.

Most computers don't have optical drives anymore. Floppy drives haven't come standard since the early 2000s. Zip disks require proprietary hardware that's genuinely hard to track down. Even SD cards from older digital cameras sometimes use file systems that current devices won't recognize.

We have the equipment and the hands-on experience to read formats that today's computers can't touch. 3.5" floppy disks, Zip disks, data CDs and DVDs, photo CDs, SD and microSD cards, flash drives, and the hard drives out of old laptops and desktop computers. We'll pull your files, organize them cleanly, and deliver everything to you on a USB drive or via a download link you can open on any current device.

Whether it's a single floppy disk with a resume you need, a stack of photo CDs from a family reunion, an SD card full of pictures from a digital camera you haven't touched in fifteen years, or the hard drive from a laptop you're finally retiring - we handle every job with the same care. Files are transferred exactly as they are. No compression, no cutting corners.

A note on old document formats: For very old files - think WordPerfect, early Microsoft Works, or anything pre-Windows - we can get the files off the disk, but we can't guarantee they'll open cleanly in modern software. Some early formats used proprietary file types that today's programs no longer support. We'll always tell you what we find before you commit.

A note on corrupted or damaged media: What we do is transfer files from readable media to a current format. If a drive has failed mechanically or data has been corrupted, that's a job for a specialist data recovery lab - it requires equipment we don't have. If that turns out to be your situation, we'll be straight with you about it and point you in the right direction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some questions we often get asked about our old disc retrieval service. If you have questions that you don’t see an answer to here or would like more information about our services, please contact us here or check out our main FAQ page.

  • That's exactly why people come to us. We have dedicated hardware for reading 3.5" floppy disks - you don't need to track down old equipment or borrow a machine from 1998. Just bring us the disks and we'll take it from there.

  • 3.5" floppy disks, Zip disks (100MB and 250MB), data CDs and DVDs, photo CDs, SD cards, microSD cards, flash drives, and the internal hard drives from old laptops and desktops. Not sure what you have? Just get in touch - we'll figure it out together.

  • Yes, and we have two ways to do it. If the machine still powers on, we can transfer your files directly - no disassembly needed.

If it doesn't power on but the drive itself is intact, we can open up the computer, remove the hard drive, and extract the files that way. There's an additional $50 charge to open the machine, and if you'd like us to put everything back together afterwards, we'll do that too.

What we can't help with is a drive that has physically failed or data that has been corrupted - that falls into specialist data recovery territory that requires lab equipment we don't have. If that turns out to be your situation, we'll let you know straight away.

  • Your files, organized and delivered in a format you can use today. Most customers receive their files on a USB drive or via a download link. We don't compress or alter anything - what was on the disk is what you get back.

  • Most jobs are turned around within a few business days. A small batch - a handful of floppy disks or a few photo CDs - is usually on the faster end. If anything affects the timeline, we'll let you know upfront.

  • There's a $10 minimum on all data extraction orders. Individual disks, cards, and drives start from $10 (or 50¢ per GB for SD cards, flash drives, and hard drives, with a $10 minimum per item).

Free pickup and delivery covers all of Fairfield County and parts of New Haven County. If you're further away, we charge $1 per mile beyond the free zone.
